Connect with your ancestral roots. Turn up at the African music festival, Afrochella. Commune with like-minded black travelers and indulge in Ghanaian cuisine on this You Me Travel Co Year Of Return Trip.
This year we’ll be traveling to Ghana for The Year Of Return festivities. It’s been 400 years since our ancestors were stolen from the shores of West Africa and brought to The Americas against our will. Now, we’re traveling back to our ancestral home to discover our ancestral roots and turn up in the motherland (because we can be sophisticated and ratchet at the same damn time).
Join us from December 27, 2019 - January 3, 2020, for the ultimate NYE celebration. This trip is designed for Black Millennials (ages 23-34), and our experiences will be designed accordingly.

Ever wanted to turn up wit' ya people on the continent? Yeah us too. Today we will celebrate our homecoming at Ghana's newest African music festival, Afrochella. It's like Coachella only black and better.
The festival features music, food (jollof anyone?) and even art. Afrochella is a celebration of African culture and the perfect place to celebrate your return to the gold coast.
We've got good news - VIP Afrochella tickets are included in your trip price because we know you're here to have a really good time.
Today we will explore the best of Accra. Our city tour will take us to famous landmarks like the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Ghana's Independence Square and the W.E.B DuBouis Center. We will learn the history of this beautiful country and its history with famous pan africanist like Maya Angelou.
Our guide is a local who knows Accra through and through. He'll introduce us to locals who will teach us about the Golden Age of Ghana. Don't worry about food - Lunch and local snacks will be provided on this tour.
Optional: Tonight we're hitting these Accra streets for a fun night out.
How have you been enjoying your new home so far? Have you recovered from the Afrochella festivities? We hope so!
Today is our official return home to Ghana and we'll celebrate with a transformative visit to Cape Coast and Elmina Castle. We will walk through the 'Door Of No Return' and along the same path as our ancestors did during their last moments on the coast of West Africa.
This part of the trip will be powerful and possibly emotional but we'll have an expert guide showing us around the grounds. There will many moments for reflection including during our oceanside lunch. Before we head back to Accra, we will commemorate our return with an official naming ceremony.
You probably know by now that Ghana in December is lit but tonight will prove it for sure. During the day, you'll have free time to relax, take a dip in the villa pool or explore the city.
We will meet up for dinner where we'll experience a traditional Fulani-style dinner. The Fulani are one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa known for their beautiful jewelery, breathtaking women and nomadic dining tradition.
Our expert chef is of Fulani descent and will lead us as we experience a three course meal, music and good vibes. Be prepared to fully immerse yourself in the culture as we will be dining in a garden on a mat as we enjoy traditional recipes with a modern twist.
After dinner, we'll head out for a night on the town in celebration of the prosperous new year ahead.
We partied and connected with the ancestors all week long so we think you'll enjoy just relaxing today. We will head to Ada, the popular beach region just outside of Accra city center. Think oceanside lunch, jetsking, horseback riding and beachside chillin'. You deserve it.
Today is a completely free day where you can explore the city. We recommend hitting up the markets, popping into a chop bar for authentic food or checking out a rooftop bar. This is where your handy You Me Travel Co neighborhood guide (included in the trip price) comes in handy!
Optional: Street food crawl with a local food entrepreneur. We will visit chop bars and other local food institutions, tasting classic dishes and interacting with chefs/owners.
We are so glad that you joined us this week. Today, you'll say 'see ya' later' to your new travel buddies. Although our time in Ghana together has come to an end, the memories (and photos) will last for a lifetime.
See you next time!
